We are celebrating the mystery of the ‘Incarnation of Christ. “And the Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us.”[Jn. 1:14]. Christmas is indeed a love story, the greatest love story ever told and lived. It’s the story of God’s superabundant love for us. “For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son…” [Jn 3:16]. Our hearts beat with joy in being saved, freed, and loved. Today, all the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God. The ‘Good News’ of salvation brings joy and peace to the people of the world.
This inestimable gift of God’s love to us comes wrapped in silence, as Jesus was born not in the splendor of the day but in the silence of the night. On this “Holy Night,” Mary gave birth to her first born and only son Jesus. Christmas reminds us that seeds grow in silence. Silence brings about the greatest revelation: It reveals God to us and reveals us to ourselves. Our God came to us in humility, poverty and simplicity. He showed us that there is goodness in the world He created; in the life He shared with us; and that we are worth saving and even dying for. Including all the truths stated above about Christmas, Pope Francis personified Christmas. He said: “Christmas is you!”
“Christmas is you when you decide to be born again each day and let God into your soul.
The Christmas pin is you, when you resist vigorous winds and difficulties of life.
The Christmas décor is you, when your virtues are colors that adorn your life.
The Christmas bell is you, when you call, gather, and seek to unite people.
You are Christmas lights, when you illuminate your life, and the path of others with kindness, patience, joy, and generosity.
The Christmas angels are you, when you sing to the world a message of peace, justice, and love.
Christmas is you, when you lead someone to meet Christ.
You are also the wise men (Magi) when you give the best you have, no matter what.
Christmas music is you when you conquer the disharmony within you.
The Christ gift is you, when you are truly a friend and brother of every human being.
The Christmas card is you, when kindness is written in your heart.
‘Merry Christmas” is you, when you forgive and establish peace even when you suffer.
Christmas dinner is you, when you serve bread and hope to the person who is by your side.
The Christmas night is you, when you are humble and conscious, you receive in the silence of the night the Savior of the world without noise or great jubilation.”
- Christmas reflection
Let us be the smile of trust and tenderness like the inner peace of perennial Christmas that establishes the Kingdom of God within us. All the above we could get for Christ whose birthday Christmas is. Many people in our world today want to take Christ out of Christmas and celebrate for some other reasons. The heart of our celebration is God’s love shown to us in Christ. Let’s appreciate God for sending His Son to us to be our Savior.
