Greetings! We're inviting all parish ministries to jump on board and be a part of the facilities "Opening Celebration" on Sunday, October 14.
The event will take place following the 10:30 a.m. Mass until about 1:30 p.m. Parishioners and guests will enjoy refreshments and campus tours while discovering some history about the parish. The occasion is to celebrate the finished facility renovations project and our faith community. Since ministries are deeply rooted in the vibrant life of our parish family, we want to feature them at this special occasion.
Ministry table displays! We're looking for parish ministries to create a table display for the occasion. We have a couple groups already signed up, but we want to get word out to all parish programs so that you can decide if you'd like to take part. The display is a little spotlight to feature your group with volunteers there to greet and answer questions for families passing by. Read below to learn more and sign up!
Displays helped educate at this summer's "Haiti Walk for Water" event.
How does it work? Each group will receive a space to create a display that informs guests and parishioners about that ministry of the parish. You can use those tri-fold poster board displays (like at a science fair) to post photos and facts on what the ministry is all about. You can hand out prayer cards, candy, stickers or fliers to those who pass by and stop to learn more. Parishioners can also decide to leave their name and information with your table coordinator so that you can later invite them to your next gathering.
Where will displays be? Displays will be in designated rooms inside Weitzel Hall. Registered groups will be assigned a spot when arriving to the event. So if you're looking at the example photo to the left ... remember this will be an indoor event.
How many volunteers are needed? The event will be about 2 hours and it may take about 30 minutes before and after for setup. So if you have two volunteers the day of the event to help with setting up and taking down the display, then they can take turns standing by the group's table and answering questions. When one volunteer enjoys a break from being the table representative, they may venture through the event and enjoy the tours or donuts.
How do we create our display? It's up to your group. Displays should inform about the ministry. If you want include a statue, or other decorative pieces on the table your display will be ... that's cool! Just remember, each group will have between 2.5' to 3' of display area on a table. There will some other guidelines for displays (like no volcanoes or live animals), but we'll share those details once you sign up!
When do we need to have items completed by? Sunday, October 14! So you have a little more than a month to inquire with your volunteers and see who is available and who wants to put their creative talent to work!
What is a parish ministry? Parish ministries are a program or service of our faith community. So everything including RE, altar servers, adoration, Parish Friends, funeral luncheons, etc ... Ministries will have a parish liaison that works with them, such as a member of the staff, leadership or a priest. A ministry's goal could just be to create an event that is a parish tradition like Parish Festival or Mardi Gras. If you're not sure if your group is a ministry, check ZionsvilleCatholic.com/ministries or contact the parish office at 873.2885.
Where do you sign up? Email [email protected]. Have "Ministry Table" in the subject line and let us know what ministry you're signing up, your name, an email contact and phone number.
We look forward to having you as part of the event!
