“Our life is a journey, and when we stop moving, things go wrong. [We are] always journeying, in the presence of the Lord, in the light of the Lord” Pope Francis (Homily with the Cardinal Electors, March 14, 2013).
Try something new this Lent and come explore the wisdom of Pope Francis as we dive into his first encyclical written to all the faithful around the world!
During the papacy of Pope Benedict XVI, he gave us two encyclicals – one on love (Deus Caritas Est) and the other on hope (Spe Salvi). Pope Francis completes the theme of the theological virtues begun by his predecessor by publishing his first encyclical on faith (Lumen Fidei).
Many think these works by our Holy Fathers are too daunting to read or not intended to be read by those of us sitting in the pew. Not so my friends!
These writings contain beautiful nuggets of wisdom and practical implementation of our faith that we don’t want to ignore.
Parish Lenten Study begins March 6.
Keep the Light burning in your life, and let’s journey through Lumen Fidei, as a parish Lenten study.
The key themes in the Light of Faith that we will discuss and share are:
• Faith is light
• An encounter with God
• Hearing and seeing
• Journey, profess, and build
All materials needed for the four sessions will be provided. There will be a brief presentation, opportunity for small group discussion, refreshments and time for Q&A.
Gatherings will be on Thursday evening from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the Parish Hall on March 6, 13, 20 and 27.
Did we mention this will also be a great way to meet and interact with other people at your parish? We hope to see you for this Parish Lenten Study.
